How to Get Beautiful, Beach Sexy Hair!

By Alexandra Zeb

If you're reading this article now, you may be wondering why in the heck is Alexandra writing about hair? As you may well know, my usual focus is on celebrities and celebrity accessories/jewelry. Well, for Valentine's Day I decided to treat myself to a little spa and salon action in New York City. I went to this wonderful salon (Salon Chinois) in mid-town and had my hair washed and dried, and miraculously, my mane was transformed into perfect beach-sexy waves! It has been my lifelong quest to figure out how to obtain the gloriousness that this wonderful stylist (Ilda) achieved on that day, and I'm here to share with you the secret!

Now, I may be behind the times, and you may all already have this trade-secret down. But if not, you're in for a real eye-opener. After having my hair washed in some of the most lovely smelling shampoos and conditioners you can imagine, the stylist sat me down and asked what kind of look I wanted to go for. When I requested wavy she pulled out a straight iron, and I thought perhaps she didn't hear me. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and let her do her thing. After all, I'm clearly no expert.

Now here's where things got a little crazy. Ilda used the flat iron to clasp small sections of hair horizontally, but instead of simply pulling the iron straight, she turned the flat iron 180 degrees. As she pulled the iron down, she kept slightly turning it at the handle. Once she got to the very ends of each strand, she turned the iron again as she released the strand. After each strand, Ilda added her own expert finesse and twirled the strand around her finger and pulled it down to create the perfect wave. It was miraculous! Waves, glorious waves!

After leaving the salon, I was almost ridiculously excited to try it on my own with my own flat iron. The very next day (I didn't want to ruin what Ilda had done), I heated my iron up, and after a few tries I was able to (almost) duplicate the wonderful look that Ilda bestowed upon me. So heat up your iron, and give it a try! It may take a few times, but let me assure you, my stylistic prowess is absolutely minimal, so if I can do it, so can you! Don't give up! Good Luck!
