Why Are More Families Choosing Organic?

By Maria Owens

We are more than ever before being bombarded on a daily basis by a cocktail of chemicals, many of them poisonous, these chemicals build up in the organs of our bodies and one can only speculate at the damage they are causing us and more importantly our children that are far more susceptible to these toxins.

In western society we live in a throw away society and convenience is very much the name of the game. There is however a growing number of families and individuals that are choosing a different way. Greener living and by doing our "bit" WE can contribute to making this world a better place to live.

It may take some time as attitudes and behaviours do not change overnight.

We have seen changes taking place, more parents in the UK and the US for example are using washable nappies for their children brought about by a concern for the environment and out of concern that these disposables are not actually better for our children despite the millions these big companies can afford to throw at marketing their product.

Many individuals and families are searching out organic clothing for themselves and for their children.

Organic clothing can be found in a range of fabrics, for example hemp, wool, bamboo and probably most common is the growing organic cotton textile market.

Organic cotton unlike conventional cotton is not reliant on huge amounts of highly toxic chemical fertilisers and pesticides. In order to obtain organic certification there are regulations in place which have to be adhered to through the whole process through to finished article.

Organic cotton is softer, and kinder on delicate skin and there are no nasties. www.mariasorganicbabies.com has a list of interesting articles as well as organic cotton and organic wool clothing for babies and children including other organic and natural products.

Recently opened in Italy Maria's Organic Babies will be introducing their own range for the summer 2008.
