The clothing that chefs wear has not really changed so much over the years. Just two or three decades ago, chefs would parade around their kitchen dressed in white with a big white puffy hat. In fact that image has become almost like the hallmark of a chef being used in so many logos etc.
In 2007 anything goes. The stripes on the apron, the chequered shoes, in fact chefs look a lot more like pirates these days with their scarves tied around their heads! Interesting how the apron has always remained, obviously from necessity and practicality rather than a fashion statement. After all, the fashions come and go and headgear changes all the time, the practicality of the apron determines its permanent and simple addition to the apparel of the chef.
When you think about food preparation, the apron is a must inclusion, particularly when you have a messy job to do. Most aprons are never clean as they keep the splashes and spills from reaching the main clothing and it is also the correct and easiest place to wipe your hands if you need to in a hurry.
There are so many cooking shows on TV now. A lot of the most popular and well known chefs seem to originate from England. They all have one thing in common though; even with their different menus and cooking styles and personalities and entertainment value and recipe ideas creating variety for the viewer, they all wear the good old apron!
You only have to enter any kitchen shop these days to see the variety of aprons that you can wear for food preparation. Chef wear has almost become a fashion of its own in the last few years too. Who would have thought that seeing the likes of Gordon Ramsay walking in slow motion through a hallway ripping off his chef attire could be classed as sexy? Lets face it, until relatively recently, most TV cooking shows were dominated by women. However, one thing that will always remain, when fashions come and go and personalities do the same thing.... the humble apron will always be a part of the working chefs day.
You are invited to find out more about the chef aprons as well as many other types of aprons available today. You will also find resources for making your own apron from free apron patterns.
